How many diaries have you started in your life (usually on January 1st, of
course) and when you look back at them, there are many entries that read something
like, “I’m so bad at keeping this diary. I swear I’m going
to be better and write every day.”? How many expensive, pretty journals
have you purchased in your life that have never been filled because you thought
your words weren’t worthy of that beautiful book? I think I have a couple
dozen, myself. Well, I’ve developed a solution for myself that I’d
love to share with you: My Everyday Book.
What do you do with all of the random
flotsam and jetsam of your days – ticket stubs, birthday cards, little
handwritten love notes from your spouse (a girl can dream), the funny thing
your 5-year-old said, a really cool label from a delicious shiraz you had on
your anniversary? You put it all into this book! What do you do with your random
thoughts, ideas, doodles and dreams? You put them into this book! At the end
of the year, you’ll have a really yummy history of YOU and your year.
I’ll show you some neat techniques that I use daily in my own journal,
as well as a bevy of samples and ideas for creating a annual record of your
life. The best news is that you don’t need any new tools or supplies
to make this happen (unless you want to go shopping, of course)!
If “I
have no time for journaling” is your first excuse for not keeping a journal,
this is the workshop for you. Some artists love to journal their lives in painstaking
and epic handwritten detail. Others like to blog or keep electronic diaries.
Others create solely visual journals. This journal, utilizing the good ole
marble composition book, is a combination of journaling styles, designed to
help you keep a record of your life in just minutes (and pennies) a day. Really.
Supplies
Every student will receive a kit including handout and inspiration
as well as a small collage/goodie pack. Class fee also includes use of instructor-provided
supplies.
Instructor will supply:
- Blank composition book
- Magazines,
book pages, images, scraps of decorative paper for collage
- An assortment
of paints, color sprays, gel crayons, watercolor crayons, pencils, china
markers, rubber & foam stamps, stencils, masks, pens, markers, ink pads
